Many of you will of course be aware of the tremendous reputation of lampworker/designer Allan Scott. Allan started at Perthshire, then joined John Deacons at J Glass, before working for Caithness until he was made redundant when they stopped making lampwork weights.
As he doesn’t have a studio Allan has to hire one, and this he does for a day or two a couple of times a year. The result is a very small production of paperweights, with enthusiasts not surprisingly eagerly snapping them up. This included us when we visited Allan earlier this month, but we have ordered more from him. Unfortunately we’re all going to have to wait until he hires a studio again in February/March next year.
If you’d like an Allan Scott weight this means you’ll have to put your name down as early as possible. Don’t worry if you change your mind – our usual money back guarantee applies.
Once again with our customisation service you have the choice of subject matter, and this of course will determine the price. As a guide a faceted weight will typically cost around £320 + VAT = £376 (approx €451 including VAT or US$526 tax-free).

We originally mis-identified this prototype weight. Many thanks to Barbara who pointed out it is in fact a prototype of the ruby overlay weight for the 40th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's coronation. This was a limited edition of only 40 made in 1993 exclusively for Peter Jones China of Wakefield, a UK store and sold for £295. It was designed by Colin Terris and the edition is now closed.
The highly complex cut is particularly interesting as not only is there 6+1 faceting, but the base and sides are deeply and intricately cut to cleverly represent the Queen’s crown.
Inside, the millefiori crowns are set on a deep green base that contrasts nicely with the ruby outer. It also contains a Whitefriar’s monk cane, as used by Caithness for their upmarket weights.

As this is a prototype it's probably unique.
