Rather than working from home, Willie has decided to get his own premises again. This is in addition to any joint ventures between Willie and John Deacons.
This will give him a lot more scope but, at least for the time being, he’s not upping his prices. As many of you are aware Willie’s prices are currently exceptionally low for the very high standard of work he produces. With higher costs compared with working from home we’d expect Willie’s prices to rise before long, so now is a great opportunity to buy. We're certainly doing so!
At the beginning of his career William Manson was taught by the renowned paperweight artist Paul Ysart and is justly renowned for the quality of his lampwork in particular. He later worked for Caithness Glass for two periods, in between which he set up his own studio. In 1997 he again branched out on his own, this time joined by his son William Junior and wife Joyce.
Willie closed the studio in 2004 when he briefly retired. However he couldn't stay away and was soon working closely with John Deacons on lampwork weights, plus collaborating with John on some very interesting joint designs.

This small Ysart-style weight is excellent value having 2 fuchsias and leaves surrounded by a ring of millefiori canes on a pale blue cushion rather than a normal ground.

One of the first weights Willie made in the new studio was a hammerhead shark. We believe this is the first ever paperweight incorporating this spectacular creature. We ordered this a long while ago and it’s taken time to perfect. However it was well worth the wait.
The single version has sold but of course we can ask Willie to make one for you.

When Willie showed us this weight we were stunned by the superb clarity of the glass. Unfortunately the photo doesn't do it justice.
This is such a simple design and very much a case of 'less is more'! Definitely one of our all-time favourites!
The weight stands upright with Willie's famous textured back. It has Willie's cane to the base of the rose and is scratched signed to the base.

This is probably one of Willie's most well-known designs and is always very popular. However this one contains many more bats than usual! In fact there are 10 (although only 9 can be clearly seen in the picture), plus Willie's cane.

This is a female funnel web spider, the most poisonous in the world! The ochre ground nicely shows the Australian desert where it lives. It was a special commission as a leaving present for an office worker who was returning down under. Apparently she's scared stiff of spiders, and it was so realistic that she almost dropped the weight! Luckilly she saw the funny side! We were also so impressed with the weight that we had Willie make us another one for stock.

This very pretty weight features Willie Manson's daffodils and a tiny ladybird (= US ladybug). It has a double overlay of blue and weight and has a star cut to the base which sets off the lampwork.
